"Diana, just a quick heads up to let you know we are still using your cookbook and the guys will often be heard saying what would Diana say about this or that....really good feed back... I made your potato salad and the oriental coleslaw on Sat. for a family luncheon and had rave reviews so thanks again."

Snack Ideas When You’e on The Go

December 21st, 1999

As seen on BCTV December 21/99

In the last few days before Christmas you may be busy doing last minute shopping or spending time with the kids skating or skiing or perhaps even touring around looking at Christmas lights. Be sure to avoid indulging on high fat, high salt junk foods by following these principles:

  • Respect the 3-4 hour rule. Your body needs fuel every 3-4 hours. If your last meal/feeding was at noon and it’s now 5 pm, you may have allowed too much time to pass. Your blood sugar and be getting low and your mood and will power may also be compromised. This can set you up to eat the wrong stuff when you go through the checkout stand or see the chips and chocolate bars. Plan to have a snack at about the 3-4 hours mark after a meal.
  • Some good snack examples on the go include: a Christmas orange, a banana, nuts, a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread, an energy bar, Yoplait Tubes (a new portable yogurt product), raw vegetables or cheese and crackers.
  • Carry a water bottle and drink frequently to prevent the lightheadedness or worse, a headache that can be associated with dehydration.
